Annual traditions
Dates vary annually and are set by each organiser. Always confirm the current year's schedule, ticketing and parking through the official event website or the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority before you travel.
June · Morehead City
The biggest week on the Morehead City waterfront. Boats weigh in daily and the docks fill with spectators — free to watch, and a genuine spectacle even if you never fish. Dates and weigh-in times are set annually.
Summer · Beaufort
A costumed re-enactment weekend along the Beaufort waterfront with mock battles, tall ships and street theatre. Family friendly and free to spectate; parking fills early.
Spring · Morehead City
A regional in-water and dockside boat show on the Morehead City waterfront, with vendors, gear and demos. A good rainy-weekend option outside peak beach season.
Autumn · Morehead City
The Crystal Coast's best-known autumn tradition brings shrimp, oysters, music and crowds to the waterfront. Book accommodation well ahead — festival weekends sell out the island.
Summer · Island-wide
Several Bogue Banks and Beaufort venues run free or low-cost outdoor concert nights through the season. Bring chairs, arrive early, and check the current schedule locally.
November–December
Flotillas, tree lightings and historic-district holiday tours run through late autumn and December, when the island is quiet and rates are at their lowest.
Year-round
Beyond Big Rock, king mackerel, flounder and offshore tournaments run out of Morehead City and Atlantic Beach across the season. Chasin' Tails Outdoors is the easiest place to hear what's running.
